Create and export your first book

Before you start

You need an active Books account and enough credits for the length you choose. Your current balance appears in the sidebar and on the Credits page.

Create the idea and brief

1. Open Ideas under Create.
2. Select Generate ideas to brainstorm with AI, or Add idea to enter your own concept.
3. Open the idea you want and choose the option to create its brief.
4. Confirm the Product type, Genre, Book length, and any optional custom knowledge.
5. Open Advanced options if you want to add instructions, then select Generate brief.

You can also open Briefs, select New brief, and choose No idea (standalone brief).

Review the brief

Open the generated brief and check its title, premise, audience, themes, chapter plan, writing options, and cover style. Changes save automatically; the status at the top changes from Saving… to Saved.

When the plan is ready, select Generate book. Choose one of the available generation flows:

• Generate the whole book writes every chapter without review pauses.
• Review chapter by chapter pauses after the first chapter so you can edit it before continuing.

Review the quoted credit total and start generation. Writing continues in the background, so you may leave the progress page and return from Books later.

Edit and export

1. Open the finished book from Books.
2. Select a chapter in the chapter sidebar and edit the manuscript. Changes save automatically.
3. Return to Books, open the book's three-dot menu, and choose DOCX, EPUB, or PDF.

EPUB is available for fiction and nonfiction. PDF is also available for digital products.
